DWI DRUG COURT
DWI Drug Court is a Dona Ana County grant project provided through Southwest Counseling Center. This one-year intensive probation program encompasses all phases of substance abuse and mental health treatment from intensive outpatient to aftercare.
Clients are screened by the Dona Ana County DWI Screener and/or court employed screeners. Clients referred demonstrate a level of alcohol abuse or dependency resulting in their incapability to control their drinking behavior.
Once referred for treatment, the client is fully assessed in each of the following domains: psychiatric, activities of daily living, substance abuse, housing, interpersonal relationships, social supports, legal, medical/dental, and community activity. A treatment plan is created and the DWI Drug Court Judge is notified. The Judge then issues the appropriate court orders to mandate treatment and the client is counseled about the program requirements, protocol, incentives, and their treatment plan.
Clients are provided with individual and group therapy as it relates to their treatment plan. There are four phases to the DWI Drug Court Program with a core of required group education and therapies in each phase. Other modalities are driven by the individual's treatment plan. The goal is to help each client successfully complete their treatment plan goals. Throughout the entire year of the program, individual therapy is offered even when the need exceeds the program.
Clients are discharged from this program after successful completion of all four phases. They are recommended for graduation by their individual counselor, and their DWI Drug Court Judge grants graduation. After graduation, clients are offered aftercare treatment for as long as they choose to participate.
